This paper reviews the proposed REDISA Plan which is meant to address the waste tyre problem. The study objectives were achieved through reviewing the REDISA gazetted Plan and interviewing REDISA personnel. The Plan does not address waste tyre problem only but has the potential to contribute to job creation, capacity building, establishment of small businesses as well as research and development of new and innovative waste tyre utilization techniques. The Plan is seen as the only viable approach to remedy the waste tyre problem through the introduction of a proposed levy fee of R2.30, and all tyre producers and dealers are expected to subscribe to the plan. Despite it being gazetted, the plan is still awaiting implementation.
