This paper shares the current DPM Baseline project that the CSIR is conducting for the platinum mine industry. The project only ends March 2013 so no results are reported in this paper. The paper describes the project plan such as the exposure modeling done to assess the health outcomes based on the DPM exposure. There were tests conducted to determine how the diesel engine deterioration relates to increased DPM exposure. The organic carbon fraction was evaluated to determine what percentage comes from the engine alone and what the other sources of organic carbon were in the workplace.
