The optronic sensor systems (OSS) competency area (CA) at the CSIR unit for defence, peace, safety and security (DPSS) performs directed research and development and builds technology demonstrators in the fields of optical design, modelling, long-range surveillance, earth observation, imaging using infrared (IR) thermal imaging systems, image processing, camouflage, simulation, the evaluation and optimisation of military IR systems and protection of military personnel and equipments against observation and hostile missiles. |
