This presentation deals with South Africa’s Space Programme from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, and discussed the South African Titanium Industry in particular. The talk shows how the SA Titanium Industry supports the current South African Space Programme. The relevance for the current space programme is mentioned, as well as how national competence developed with DST support. It is concluded that the Titanium Centre of Competence is integrating and coordinating R&D and commercialisation across the titanium value chain and is well positioned to serve the South African Space Programme.
