With the current focus on continuing and improving the systems for measuring or assessing the environmental or sustainability performance of buildings, very little attention has been given to the difficulties encountered by the built environment professionals, particularly by architects, in the implementation of sustainability principles in the development of building projects. The aim of the paper is to highlight the limitations of introducing sustainability aspects into the existing South African Council of Architectural Professions (SACAP) work plan stages for architects
