dc.description 5th Post Graduate Conference on Construction Industry Development, Bloemfontein, South Africa, 16-18 March 2008 en
dc.description.abstract The emphasis on the shortage of Built Environment Professionals (BEPs) in South Africa requires an understanding how data is captured to quantify and qualify perceived skills shortages. The need to verify whether data capturing methods are accurate, and implementation to develop strategies aimed to improve methods of data capturing is required. A strategic approach to investigate the professional skills within sources that capture information relating to BEPs was engaged for this paper. The data collection and assessments approach from official sources is expected to determine any shortage and appropriate interventions. The study mainly focuses on the collection of enrolment information from official sources, such as Department of Education, HEI and Built Environment Statutory Professional Councils. This paper highlighted aims and identifies impediments in reviewing the available professional skills in the Built Environment sector data base en
