dc.description.abstract This report discusses the adequate provision for waste disposal is an essential part of the infrastructure needed in the development of Richards Bay as a deepwater harbour and industrial/metropolitan area. Having considered various options for waste material and effluent in the area as well as the waste characteristics, a marine pipeline was chosen. Basic prerequisites for marine disposal of wastes through a pipeline include identification of effluent characteristics and of the critical constituents of each discharge, assessment of the marine environment, establishment of discharge criteria, design of pipeline to meet criteria, and monitoring en
