Alpha-Arylation of inethanesulfonamides using palladium catalysis is described. For example, treatment of N-benzyl-Nmethylmethanesulfonamide with catalytic Pd (OAc) (2) in the presence of sodium tert-butoxide, triphenylphosphine and toluene afforded N-benzyl-N-methylphenylinethanesulfonamide in 66% yield.
