Complex factory layouts can be improved by performing optimization on the layout in discrete event simulation packages. Creating models of complex factories in these simulation packages can, however, be very time-consuming and generally requires a highly skilled operator. This work proposes an intuitive factory layout tool that greatly reduces the time required to create a factory layout in simulation packages, allowing optimization and simulations to be run with greater ease. By lowering the skills level required, the tool allows for the client to be part of the simulation loop, thus enabling faster iteration between different layout options.
