The atmosphere of an insert gas below its critical temperature has little effect on the vapor pressure of liquids and solids that may be associated with it, but on the raising the temperature of the gas a remarkable increase in the vapor pressure of the substrate occurs as soon as the critical temperature of the gas is reached or exceeded.
